Music links

I LOVE music. It's my lifeline. Without it, I definately would have gone insane by now. I've placed some samples of my favorite artists' music on this page in hopes to expose others to my life and help them understand me better.
Note: If the tour dates link says the band is not found, it most likely means they just aren't on tour, not that there's an error.

In the beginning I heard a few of their songs, which I did like very much. Then, my
friend Melissa, who loves them, started going to every concert that came near here! I knew I must be
missing something so I bought their album "Crash" which was awesome. A great combination of
instruments. Guitar, percussion of sorts, and all kinds of horns and strings. The variety
with which the songs are put together boggle my mind. And with friends
like the great Tim Reynolds on guitar and Bela Fleck on banjo, you'll
never hear more beautiful pieces of music in your life. You just gotta
dance to this stuff. My very favorites include "#40", "#41", "Say Goodbye", "Seek Up",
"The Stone", "Lover Lay Down", "Two Step", "Lie In Our Graves", and "Pig"

I honestly don't remember clearly how I came upon Sarah. I remember seeing her "Building a Mystery"
video on TV, and my friend Shea talking about her, but how I came to buy Surfacing? *shrug*
In any case, a wonderful unique soul, a great person, and she can sing too! Go sarah! :-)

I found out about David from Dave Matthews. I bought '
White Ladder', which is just AMAZING..one of my all-time top albums.
His live stuff is really great too. Lots of energy and a great, powerful voice.
Tori Amos
:: Tour
Dates
In December of '96 I went to see my good friend Blondie in SC. We went shopping and searching all over for this Tori Amos tape. I honestly, at that point, have never heard a song of hers and only knew she was some red-head chick :) When I got home, I bought her album "Little Earthquakes" and found out why Blondie loved her so much. Her voice, unlike others, literally sends chills up and down my spine. Just her breathing sets me off. Most of her stuff is depressing, but I listen to it when I AM depressed, so ya never know what it's gonna do to you. My very favorites include "Hey Jupiter", "Winter", and "Mother"
I've been to 1 Tori show so far:
Ani DiFranco

Funny story how I came to like her. My best friend Elisa from MI loves her, and one weekend
we were going to NYC with some friends, and she brought "Little Plastic Castle" with her.
And while I didn't get a good listen to it in the car, it turned out that when she went home she forgot
it and left it in my CD changer. So I started listening to it, and thought it was simply amazing.
I love the folkish guitar sound, the anger and sweetness in her voice, the lyrical imagery.
I've seen her twice so far, and can't wait to meet her.
I've been to 2 Ani shows so far:
Sep 6th, 2000: Eisenhower Auditorium, State College, PA: NA
Oct 30th, 2000: Liacouras Center, Temple Univerity, Philadelphia, PA: NA
Apr 23rd, 2003: Paramount Theatre, Denver, CO: POSTPONED UNTIL OCT

Mary J. Blige
:: Tour
Dates
I first heard about Mary from my friend Shea. She listened to her a lot..and shea has some pretty good tastes. So when I was in Colorado visting Jenny, I picked up Mary's "Share My World" CD. I have this clear memory that on the way back, I was going through the security checkpoint in Chicago's O' Hara airport, and i got stopped by this young african-american girl (cute too) who wanted to check out my duffle bag. She found this CD in there and was like, "Oh my god, this is my favorite CD!". I hadn't even listened to it yet, but I guess that was a good sign. But yeah, it was great. A lot of soul to it. And her "No more drama" album is just as good. If you want some R&B with soul, and just a drop of hip-hop, enough to keep you in check, this is it.
Jim CroceI just started listening to Jim a short time ago. I find his music to be both feel good and depressing at the same time. His songs and the way he plays guitar is just amazing. His songs go on a lot about people experiences. Just listen.
Pearl Jam

When I was in college, I start hearing this song "Daughter" being repeatetd over and over in my dorm building. I asked someone and they said it was by this awesome band Pearl Jam. So I bought their album "Vs" and damn, I couldn't stop listening to Eddie Vedder. His voice was so soothing. When I went to see my friend in Indiana, she bought me "Ten" on CD and I was hooked even more. From then on I've been with them. I've seen so many people drop off of their following because of their growth into a different style. To those people all I have to say is IT'S EVOLUTION BABY!!!
Jewel
:: Tour
Dates
I first saw heard/saw Jewel in her "Who will save your soul?" video on MTV. I think she's the cutest thing I've ever seen! Oh yeah, I liked the song too. I remember one night I went out with my parents shopping and I bought her album. We listened to it on the way home. My parents hated it. They heard "you say he's a faggot" and totally had their minds made up. I love her voice. She can change it so many ways. She sings low, then real high, then talks like a little girl, it's great. Her lyrics also, just blow me away.
Smashing Pumpkins
:: Tour
Dates
I worked at this place with this girl who loved the pumpkins. She loaned me their album "Siamese Dream" I listened to it a few times, and while I didn't love it, I liked a bunch of the songs. In Jan. of '97 I went to one of their concerts..it was good and they played a bunch of songs I heard for the first time and right away liked. Since then I bought 1 or 2 of their CDs and I listen to them every now and again when I need something hard to jam to.
A band I took a chance on. Very good second album. Got the first one too, but couldn't really get into it. They're local to me, so I hear about them a lot. Still didn't get to see them yet.

When I was 10 I remember my cousin, Melissa, having this tape called "No Jacket Required" by this guy Phil C. that I never heard of before. I borrowed it and his music was for lack of a better 10 year old word "cool" I listened to the tape all the time and knew all the words to all the songs. After that, I bought every tape he had. He writes a variety of songs, dance tunes, melodies, and just plain pop. One of the best drummers I have ever heard. After a while I finally found out he was with Genesis and their music with him was jsut as great. Their old stuff, things like supper's ready and the three side lives recordings are the definition of the word 'variety'. Phil is one of the best in my book. IF YOU HAVE TIME, LISTEN TO THE 23-MINUTE SUPPER'S READY BELOW!!

Nex to Eddie Vedder, my favorite lyricist. You really have to be made for this music. It definately is not for everyone. And it's not very wise for people to sterotype listeners of them. They simply dont understand.
